Corporate purpose drives considerable discussion in the business community and served as a centerpiece of Larry Fink’s much anticipated 2022 letter to CEOs earlier this year. It also frequently comes up in conversations around attracting and retaining talent during what has become known as the Great Resignation. As organizations attract more attention – and face greater scrutiny – for what they stand for and why they exist (and from a range of critical stakeholders), the question of who will be accountable for delivering on initiatives connected to their company’s purpose will attract more attention as well. When asked in September 2021, the Transformative ommunity was divided on who owns company purpose, indicating that for now at least, how companies deliver against their purpose will not follow one corporate roadmap.
