James E. Whaley, President, Siemens Foundation

Building America’s next generation of scientists

Jim Whaley, President, The Siemens-Foundation, talks with Robert Reiss about inspiring young students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math — ingredients essential to sustaining industry and the U.S. economy. Whaley explains it’s the face-to-face engagement of persons working in the sciences with students that makes the difference. He goes on to describe the Siemens Foundation’s approach to selecting the best of students by using a non-traditional model involving competition and partnering. The centerpiece of the model is called the “Siemens We Can Change the World Challenge”.
